Dynamic Management of Multimedia Applications and Multilevel QoS Specification
نویسنده
چکیده
Offering to multimedia applications an acceptable level of Quality of Service (QOS) is a challenging problem that need high performance mechanisms both in the network and the end systems. To provide the network with the level of service requested, QOS specification is a crucial phase. This phase is used not only for negotiations with the end system(s) but also indicating the way different media are associated, or split up, before being transmitted as a single bit stream. The use of a multilevel QOS model is discussed, as a support for QOS specification, call admission optimization and dynamic resource and connection management.

Multilevel QOS and Traffic Models for Dynamic Management of Multimedia Connections
Over the past few years extensive research works on the area of Quality of Service provisioning for multimedia applications have been done and Quality of Service based architectures are being developed. More investigations are necessary to study the impact of interactions between multimedia applications in the context of a global network management policy. Between the best effort environments o...
متن کاملOn Supporting Mision-Critical Multimedia Applications
Mission-critical multimedia applications such m advanced command and control are dynamic and criticality driven. Taking into consideration of the application criticality as well as media quality-ofsewice (QoS} ar$ timing requirements, we develop a multiresource management system that enables criticality-based resource preemption and QoS-based dynamic resource negotiation and adaptation. Our pee...

This paper proposes a new language for the development of distributed multimedia applications: Quality Assurance Language (QuAL). QuAL abstractions allow the specification of Quality of Service (QoS) constraints expected from the underlying computing and communication environment. QuAL specifications are compiled into run time components that monitor the actual QoS delivered. Upon QoS violation...
متن کاملApplication Requirements and QoS Negotiation in Multimedia Systems
The Quality of Service (QoS) concept is of central importance in the context of communication protocols for multimedia systems. Generally, multimedia systems comprise the following functional units: networks, end-to-end protocols, data management systems, applications, human-computer interfaces, and operating systems. Obviously, the entire system is influencing QoS that is visible to human user...
متن کاملA Model for Dynamic QoS Negotiation applied to an MPEG4 Application
The traffic generated by multimedia applications presents a great amount of burstiness, which can hardly be described by a static set of traffic parameters. The dynamic and efficient usage of the resources is one of the fundamental aspects of multimedia networks: the traffic specification should first reflect the real traffic demand, but optimise, at the same time, the resources requested. This...
